In fact, Allah is the word for God, not His name.

What is the arabic name of the old city Kutha in akkad?
Kutha is the name of two places, one factual and one mythical.

The real Kutha was a town in the land of Akkad on the right bank of the eastern branch of the Upper Euphrates north of Nippur. It was the cult city of Nergal.[citation needed]

Kutha was also the capital of the underworld, Irkalla, and poetry refers to this underworld.[

How barack obama got his name' since barak is a hebrew name and obama is an arabic name?

Barak is arabic. It means blessed by allah.

" It's an Arabic word meaning “blessed” and comes directly from the Koran"

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/...

How barack obama got his name' since barak is a hebrew name and obama is an arabic name?
His father is Arabic. He is not a Muslim, Obama is a member of a protestant church in Chicago
Reply:His daddy was African and spoke Arabic...jeez my bad...and he was Muslim...
Reply:Obama's grandfather had converted to Islam, but Obama's father and his mother were atheists. Barak is a Middle Eastern name, common to both Arabic and Hebrew. Obama is a Kenyan name. Obama's Kenyan relatives are both Muslim and Christian.

I am a Muslim and I do NOT consider him to be a Muslim.

Reply:My sons name is Kenyon which is an Irish Gaelic name meaning fair and blond...

He is 1/4 Mexican...how fair and blond do you think he is? Names don't mean anything. The parents think they are good names so be it. You don't have a say in your name.
Reply:I would have thought O'Bama was an Irish name - he must be catholic.
Reply:his background is muslim. no matter what people say, thats what he was. but really it dont matter what he is.....i still aint voting him
Reply:He is a muslim. He went to muslim schools and was sworn into the Karan. Also his middle name is Hussein(which is a name associated with a terroist). The Karan also says that all Christians and Jews need to be killed.
Reply:Barak actually means lightning, to illuminate or bring light. It is also a Biblical name. Barack is a hero in the Bible. The name is mentioned in Judges.

As far as Barack Obama, his father was Kenyan. Barack and Obama is a Kenyan name.
Reply:Who cares?

His father was from Kenya, his mother from Kansas (I think).

His parents named him. I don't care how they chose his name.
Reply:The name Barack must be the corrupted form of the swahili word Baraka, which means blessing(s).Swahili heavily borrows from arabic vocabulary.Obama is a common Luo name in East Africa. So his name must mean roughly"Blessed Obama"
Reply:He has the exact same name as his father. He's a "junior." That's where his name came from.

Obama is a Kenyan family name, it's not Arabic. It's African.
Reply:Why don't you also ask how Hike McCabre, Ritt Momney and Mohn JcCain got their names? Unusuan names, aren't they? Who cares?

Are converts to Islam obliged to change their name to an Arabic one or is this a matter of personal taste?

As many have already stated before me it is a matter of personal taste EXCEPT for it that name has a bad meaning.

A good example is one of the Prophet's (pbuh) companions Abu Huraira (ra). Perhaps you've heard his name before? He was a major contributor to the hadiths or narrations of the Prophet (pbuh) life.

-- Abu Hurayrah became a Muslim at the hands of at-Tufayl ibn Amr the chieftain of the Daws tribe to which he belonged. The Daws lived in the region of Tihamah which stretches along the coast of the Red Sea in southern Arabia. When at-Tufayl returned to his village after meeting the Prophet and becoming a Muslim in the early years of his mission, Abu Hurayrah was one of the first to respond to his call. He was unlike the majority of the Daws who remained stubborn in their old beliefs for a long time.

When at-Tufayl visited Makkah again, Abu Hurayrah accompanied him. There he had the honor and privilege of meeting the noble Prophet who asked him: "What is your name?"

"Abdu Shams - Servant of a Sun," he replied.

"Instead, let it be Abdur-Rahman - the Servant of the Beneficent Lord," said the Prophet.

"Yes, Abdur-Rahman (it shall be) O Messenger of God," he replied. However, he continued to be known as Abu Hurayrah, "the kitten man", literally "the father of a kitten" because like the Prophet he was fond of cats and since his childhood often had a cat to play with.

http://www.mohammad-pbuh.com/3/abuhurera...

Because cats/kittens were always following him around and he was always seen with one, he became known as abu huraira.

ANYWAY :p... because a slave of the sun isn't appropriate, he got his name changed.

Many people do prefer to change it for many personal reasons. Others prefer to keep it. And some change and than go back to their old names. But the ones i know of are all great Muslims mashaAllah.

Are converts to Islam obliged to change their name to an Arabic one or is this a matter of personal taste?
Ofcourse not Islam doesn't care about your name or the out look but Islam cares about who you are inside, if you are a Muslim you are a muslim inside not because you born as one or you ID card says you are, Usama bn Ladn say he is a muslims but is he? NO bcoz he do stuff aginst Islam he just has a Muslim or Arabic name

anyway the name doesn't mean anything
Reply:it is a personal choice

unless the meaning of your name is not nice

as Mohammad pbuh told us to choose good and nice names to our children

as once he asked a Man what is your name, the man answered "War"

so the prophet smiled and gave him a nice name. I cannot remember the full story and there was another too.
Reply:In England, Islambs usually follow the crowd and blow themselves up before they formally choose a name.
Reply:You are not obliged to, no. As long as your name has a good meaning you can keep the name you have, yes its a personal choice...
Reply:it's a matter of personal obligation. (two points)
Reply:Muhammad Ali did, Michael Jackson hasn't
Reply:No, there is no obligation.
Reply:not necessarily only if they want to. I converted and i dd not change my name...
Reply:It's your choice, you don't have to if you don't want to.
Reply:yes. you must show people you are muslims and better than them
Reply:they have to have nobhead in there name somewhere.

I know lots of Arabic names cuz I use to live in Saudi Arabia for 12 years

Ahmad, Abdullah, Aymen, Aamer or Amer,

Amir (means Prince)

Mohannad (yes, thats suppose to be N's.. its an alternative to Mohammad)

Khalid NOT pronounced Cal-lid.. there's no letters in English that make the sound Kh as it is in Arabic.. You'd have to hear someone who speaks Arabic to know how to pronounce it..

Mahmood, Bilal, Omar, Ibrahim, Idriss, Abdoon, Farhan (means Happy), Salim, Haleem, Hakeem, Jamal, Nasir, Rashid, Walid (Wa-leed), Maher, Asad, Ayser, Binder, Fareeq, Farooq, Tariq, Hadi, Ramy, Hani, Hassan, Halaal, Imad, Kareem....

Those are just a few that come to mind.... There are lots of different spellings for most of these names, so look them up, choose one that you like!

Good luck %26amp; Congrats on your baby boy! :)

Is an Islamic name actually an Arabic name?

If Dawood is an Islamic name, why can't the person be named David, since it has the same meaning? Does it mainly have to do with the language of the name?

Is an Islamic name actually an Arabic name?
No such thing as an "Islamic name" or "non-Islamic name," but only Islamic people and non-Islamic people. If you get stuck on names, you are so far off base, so so so far off base. Outside covering, dress up is meaningless, it's the inside soul that counts. Where does Allah go on and on about names in the Qur'an or any other holy book?

To the one answerer who said names don't have meanings in other languages, again, that is not true and you really need to lose your arrogance based upon your ignorance. Please, learn something about other people already. Names in multiple languages have meanings behind them such beautiful, angel, and many other things.
Reply:Salam my dear Muse.Giving a name to a baby should be a good name in its meaning or it is ussually used in Islam although without any meaning. It is not a must actually an arabic name.We in Indonesia could use also the local name for muslims such as Agus Muhammad

.Agus means good or bagus Titiek Puspa means the good flower.David can be used for Daud and Yosef for Yusuf ,Mariam for Maryam,Moses for Musa ,Solomon for Sulaeman etc. In hadith,Muhammad pbuh did not allow to use the name which show the shortcoming of someone such the blind, the deaf ,the cripple etc
Reply:It is in hadith that it is better to name your child for Allah. Meaning is that we as Muslims should stick to those names which glorify Allah (swt). It is better, although not required, to do that in the Arabic language. However, many other cultures such as Indonesian, African or Malaysian have a very cultural way of pronouncing these names and so they have the cultural context as well. This is not a bad thing. I recently met a boy whose name is Usmane. This is a Senegalese way of pronouncing Uthman.

As for some of the names you mention for instance David and Moses are NOT Hebrew names. They are English pronunciations of the Hebrew names Daveed and Moishe. If you live in an English speaking country you would use those names. To give a Muslim child a name with the Hebrew pronunciation is not prohibited but the child would be fighting that name all his/her life. To illustrate another name, Ibrahim also has other pronunciations, in Hebrew it is Avram, in English it is Abraham - but Muslims, when using this name, use only the Ibrahim pronunciation.

And Allah (swt) knows best.

Peace and Blessings,

Imam Salim
Reply:Well dear, actually a muslim child should be named in such a way that he could be recognized as a muslim. if you name your child as David, everyone would be like he is a non-muslim but if you name him as Dawood, people would know he is a Muslim Alhumdulillah, although the meanings would be the same.

So, we should name our children as they should be recognized as Muslims ~!
Reply:David is a jewish name...

arabic names or most of them have the name of something meanig something.. like

Kamar - moon

or

jamil - beautiful

or

afif -chaste

you do not find them in other languages but arabic

the names like maryam , david etc are not arabic names they are merely translated giving the sound they would have using the available arabic alphabet....they are taken from times prior to the koranic times.
Reply:let me just say that when Muhammad was born and named Muhammad ,Islam did not exist.so to argue about if a name is islamic or not does not make sense to me.so when you say an islamic name,it is actually naming after a known person who was a muslim or converted to islam in the period of islam birth
Reply:There isnt a rule that says your child has to have an "arabic" sounding name

if the given name doesnt have any meaning derogatory or against Islam, its ok to have..

Just research any meaning of a name you like..

examples of bad names would be a name of some other faiths god or goddess..

you wouldnt want to name a son Zeus, Hercules, Troy, etc.. get it?

but if your name means something in some ancient greek, .like.. "the one who collects water".. or "the one who is a blacksmith".. etc etc.. those are perfectly fine names...

Reply:Explain to me again what is wrong with my name? Allah will not accept my prayers if I don't have an "islamic" name? What does that mean? My name has to be Arabic or Allah will not accept my prayers? Allah is a prejudiced bigot? When did that happen?
Reply:Salaam sis.

I agree with what you are saying, but if you name your child David, society will think he is a non-muslim. It's best to choose a name for your child which is known within the Islam world..

Between, are you having a child? Oh my, you didn't inform me! :(
Reply:dawood and david are the same thing.

same with yusef and joseph.

just because its in a different language it

doesnt mean the meaning changed

edit:

name your child what you wish.
Reply:Astagfirullah who is this "muslimahforallah?" Not only is her answer wrong but her picture is very offensive.

Most likely a kaffir trying to spread misinformation about Islam.
Reply:yes you can

They say it comes from Arabic and means "strength", but I can't help to think that the name sounds so American or maybe i am pronouncing it wrongly? Black guy with an Arabic name. Could he be Muslim, part Middle Eastern, or what?

There's this guy at my school who likes me, he's pretty cute xD. He looks like he's of African decent. His skin is somewhat dark and his facial features point to it. His first name's Ahmed. His brother has an Arabic name, also. His last name is originated from English.

Could he be part Middle Eastern, could he be Muslim, since a lot of Africans are Muslim. Could his parents just like Arabic names?

Black guy with an Arabic name. Could he be Muslim, part Middle Eastern, or what?
You can't always judge someone's cultural background by their names nowadays. For example, the name Fatima is originally Arabic but it's also a popular name among African-Americans. Just ask him-- it's a good conversation-starter.
Reply:The reason that some Africans have Muslim names is because Arab traders came to Northern Africa and brought Islam with them. And many Africans converted to Islam or married Muslims. So a bit of Arab culture was grafted into the North African culture(s).
Reply:He could be anything. He COULD be part Middle Eastern....

... but there are a LOT of Blacks with Arabic names. I know quite a few Africans who are of Muslim religion and have Arabic names. I also know Black people who were born right here in the United States who are Muslim religion and have Arabic names. Some of them have their last names changed from American-sounding names to Arabic-sounding names once they become Muslim. (e.g. "Shaw" becomes "Shah")
Reply:Does it matter? If you think he is cute, ask him out. Talk to him and somehow find a way to bring it up in casual conversation.
Reply:He could be Somalian? They usually have Arabic names like that. :)
Reply:You might want to ask him.

Hi, I wanted to know what's the Arabic name for Michael? I want to know what is Micheal called in Arabic Lang?
In Arabic literature, Michael is called Mikha'il.

Peace.

ST
Reply:It is Mikhail as others have said. Or sometimes Mikhael, Michael or Michel.the latter 3 are usually used by non arabs in the mid east though.

The form Mikhail is also used by some Jews, Aramaic speaking Assyrians,Copts and East European Slavs.

Jews and Assyrians may also use Michael,or also Mikhael, the suffix AEL meaning god.

Michael is a Hebrew name, and is most commonly used in the middle east by NON ARAB peoples such as Jews, Assyrian Christians,Syriacs, Armenians, Maronites etc. Maronites use the term Michel.

Outside of Palestinian and Jordanian Christians, few christians in the mid east are Ethnically Arabs anyhow, and it is not that common among Muslims.

i would get several opinions from various sources, as you will probably get different looks for each one everywhere you try. Arabic is read from left to right correct? does that mean the words are spelled like that as well? meaning Ashata would be spelled atahsa? Sorry if that's a stupid question but I would just like to make sure

Can anyone translate the name Ashata into arabic calligraphy please?
Arabic is not read backwards,it starts from left to right,so ur name will still be Ashata- 兀卮丕鬲丕
Reply:yes, the words are spelled from right to left.. and we connect the letters to form the words. ashata = 兀卮丕鬲丕 in arabic. the first a is 兀, the sh is 卮, the second a is 丕, the t is 鬲, then the last a is 丕.

those are just the letters that form your name.. here they are again.. 兀 卮 丕 鬲 丕. above is how they look when they are connected to form your name in a readable way. and no, it's not a stupid question.

Does Obama's arabic name tell us anything about him?

This is the Arabic translation of Obama's full name and then the full meaning in Arabic.

Barack= blessed; blessing

Hussein = handsome

Obama= crooked; bent

Full expression= "The blessing that is both handsome and crooked."

There are a lot of things both good and bad you could take. What do you think?

Does Obama's arabic name tell us anything about him?
I hadn't seen this yet-star for you.
Reply:I hate people that say he is Muslim. He was named by his father who is Muslim but Obama only knew his father for 1 month out of his entire life. Obama was raised by his Christian mother and is a Christian.

In response to the question, I believe that a name is a name and doesn't tell you much about a person.
Reply:It is quite a humble name...yes he may have some bad qualities but he is a great man. I think we need more humble people in politics! Muslim or no Muslim, makes no difference to me. I judge by people's actions, not the color of their skin.
Reply:No, not your definition of Obama's name.

We all know that YOU put your own definition to Obama's surname.

But no matter.

Because Obama didn't name himself.

Reply:God, believing someone's name actually say something about them - that's almost as crazy as religion! (no sarcasm intended)

Seriously, are you seriously telling me that you care what his name is? America is worse than I thought.....

Reply:lol crooked bent now if that don't beat all how appropriate well the saying is if the shoe fits wear it and he sure wears it
Reply:After 9/11 I really don't think an arabic President is a good call.
Reply:using a name to promote fear constitutes as terrorism. nobody would give a rats *** if his name was john smith.
Reply:We know he's blessed and all of us need that. His name is no differant then anybody else's. Get over it and move on to more possitive things.
Reply:He admits he is a muslim - before you get mad watch the link.
Reply:I think his name is his name. No one should look into a persons name for an answer.
Reply:He said he was a muslim a few days ago. No need to question what it fact.
Reply:My name is James, a biblical name doesn't mean a thing, what does that say.

Reply:His name tells us that is was given to him by his parents - he had nothing to do with choosing it. You are reading much to much into it.
Reply:I think that you are an idiot.
Reply:Yeah, and if you believe that one I've got a bridge to nowhere to sell you.
Reply:NO
Reply:he didn't pick his name. Go fight somewhere else.
Reply:Good Thing that he did not choose his name...what does your name mean?
Reply:My name means Manifestation of God and i'm not that special, trust me. What's in a name, really?
Reply:He's the anti-christ. XD
Reply:Yes, it says he is a spy.
Reply:He is Muslim.

I love the style of arabic cursive writing and am wanting to get my daughters name tattooed in this style. Could someone please translate "Lilly Mae" into arabic for me?

Help with translating my daughters name into Arabic?
The transliterations are correct but do you want the actual words for Lilly Mae or just the phoenetic sounds of it? I mean if you can't read it yourself then it seems kind of silly to get it put on you besides anyone who can read arabic will look at it and think Man someone put bunch of nonsense on that person.

Reply:Since there is still no standard of English-Arabic written translation (and linguist have been trying for a millenia), there are two common ways of spelling it: Koran or Qu'ran (but never "Quoran").

There are also two ways of pronouncing it.

1. Kor-an (the "or" is pronounced the same way as "ore" and the "a" is dragged out.

2. Kur-an (the "ur" is pronounced the same way as "purr" and the "an" is pronounced "on"
Reply:it can be either Koran or Qur'an (not Quor'an, there is no "o")

Reply:i actually wanted to name my baby boy Ishaan but had to reject it coz i my mom said it was a muslim name. so i guess it must be an arabic name.
Reply:'Ishan' exist in both Hindi and Urdu, and means very different things.

in Urdu, Ishan probably means the sun (i assume akasma is partially correct)

in sanskrit (or hindi), Ishan is the name of of the ten directions referred to in Hindu mythology. (there are only 4 in Geography, but 10 in ancient sanskrit texts)

In India, the usage of Ishan as a name is predominantly hindi.

Hence, even though ishan has a valid meaning in arabic, it is not a very practical arabic name.
Reply:go with something u both can decide on
Reply:Its more Sanskrit or hindi than arabic .......

Reply:Ishaan itself is actually Hindi, meaning "the sun." Ishan (as you had both spellings in your question) Is similar to Ihsan (transpose the S and H) which is actually a variant of Ahsan, which is Arabic for "perfection" or "excellence." So by using either Ihsan or Ahsan, you are using an Arabic name.

I like your choice by the way, I think it's a great name. Play with it a little, and maybe poke around the source website. You might find an acceptable name for both of you.

How do you say the Arabic name "Akil"?

Is it just 'ah - KEEL'?

How do you say the Arabic name "Akil"?
毓丕賯賱

It means "intelligent, wise" in Arabic, so it is an Arabic name.

This is how you say it: 'Aa-qil.

A long 'A' sound, then a short "i."

Hope that helps.

Edit:

I don't know why the thumbs-down, but whatever.

You can listen to how this person says his name, which is also Akil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwv03Ilce...

Also, the name you want is (毓賯賷賱).

What I wrote above is also an Arabic name but apparently people don't agree...

The best pronunciation is: 'Ah-qeel. It's more accurate.
Reply:To Missy: U got the thumbs down because Akil is not an Arabic name, easy ;) Report Abuse

Reply:yes u can say just Ah keel =毓丕賯賱 for male and its not a name ^_^

u can say A keela = 毓丕賯賱賴 for female and i guess u dont have to make the H appear too much in Ah keel !! so lets say Akeel

any way hope it helped and A keel and Ah keel are the same ^_^
Reply:yes you right ! it is arabic name that mean wise and you pronounce it 'ah - KEEL'

Gender: Boy

Origin: Arabic

Pronunciation: (ah KEEL)

http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com...

i hope it's helps
Reply:I do believe so.
Reply:No it's ah-kel
Reply:Sorry, but Akil is not an Arabic name. Maybe it could be Urdu or something, but not Arabic.

--------

Edit:

Btw, if u wanted the definition of Akil, it actually means "Sane", but it's not someone's name.

As for "Intelligent" in Arabic, it's "Zaki"
