what was the strait or gibraltars arabic name?

it has been englishized over the past 900 years or so what was it originally called and what was the arbic name

What was the strait or gibraltars arabic name?
The Arabic Name is: Jebel Tariq (Mountain of Tariq), It was named after the Berber (a North African tribe) General "Tariq ibn Ziyad" who was from Morocco

The person above told you that it was the Pillars of Hercules, during antiquity (the time of Homer and Socrates) that was correct.
Reply:I'm sure when pronounced it sounds like a car bomb going off...
Reply:its in a different language. and different writing.you cant write in on computer without changing your font
Reply:To pronounce it correctly, you'd have to rip out your tongue.
Reply:It was originally called "The place in the ocean where the land comes real close together before entering into a great expanse of water". The Arabs choose to shorten this term to the translation of today, "Insurance Company Logo".
Reply:Originally the Strait of Gibraltar was known as THE PILLARS OF HERCULESE... so the Arabic name would probably be whatever that amounted to in Arabic.
